Root Functional Traits and Water Erosion-Reducing Potential of Two Indigenous C4 Grass Species for Erosion Control of Mudstone Badlands in Taiwan

چکیده
In southern Taiwan, mudstone badland accounts for over 1000 km2 of the upstream region watersheds. Rainstorms often induce interrill and surface erosion on slopes. Furthermore, large quantity soils detached by runoff result in severe sedimentation reservoirs. Thus, soil control badlands represents one most pressing problems reservoir watershed management. Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. (Bermuda grass) Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack. (Centipedegrass) are two native predominant C4 grass species appearing badlands. They play a key role revegetation Nevertheless, their root functional traits water erosion-reducing potential have not been investigated. this study, were examined. Vertical pullout tensile tests conducted to measure resistance strength. Hydraulic flume also performed evaluate potentials. The results demonstrated that systems C. E. grasses all belonged fibrous M-type. had remarkably better compared those ophiuroides. was higher than addition, hydraulic showed has smaller detachment rates Altogether, our data clearly show traits, resistance, is more suitable badland. Further studies large-scale implementation techniques these efficient vegetation restoration needed.

Question: This study analyzed the effect of severe soil erosion on species composition of plant communities by favouring species showing certain growth forms, root-sprouting and clonal growth abilities. Location: The study area was located between the middle Ebro Valley and the PrePyrenees (northeastern Spain). Methods: Root-sprouting and shoot-rooting abilities, clonal reproduction and growth ...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Impacts of Biochar on Physical Properties and Erosion Potential of a Mudstone Slopeland Soil
Food demand and soil sustainability have become urgent issues recently because of the global climate changes. This study aims to evaluate the application of a biochar produced by rice hull, on changes of physiochemical characteristics and erosion potential of a degraded slopeland soil. Rice hull biochar pyrolized at 400°C was incorporated into the soil at rates of 2.5%, 5%, and 10% (w/w) and wa...
